As this hot season slowly slips into a cooler one, it’s hard not to mourn the loss of non-scheduled days spent in SPF and bathing suits. Although most beach-goers have migrated back to their respective towns, there are always a reluctant few who are just not ready to trade in their swimsuits for sweaters! You’ll find these seasonal rebels frequenting New Smyrna Beach because let the truth be told… Florida beaches are still warm and sunny in September!  We’re letting you in on Floridians’ best kept secrets on why they head to New Smyrna Beach in the fall – discover why below!

The Crowds Are Gone!

When school buses start making their rounds and routine settles back in, Florida natives know that it’s officially time to head to the beach!  Fall is one of the best times to visit New Smyrna Beach since classes, sport schedules, and work have called most tourists back home. Unlike the rest of the country, September rarely brings coats out of Floridians’ closet.  Keep the flip flops and shorts out for a while longer and walk down the now quiet and open shores of New Smyrna Beach.  You’ll not only find the beach significantly less crowded, but all your favorite places as well – it’s the perfect time to make reservations at popular restaurants or book a tour that’s usually full! Join In On Local Fun

While nothing beats the sun on your skin and the sound of crashing waves, you’ll find that New Smyrna Beach’s September events are worth the short time away from beachy paradise. Bring a fun-loving, adventurous attitude to the Edgefest Day on the River where you’ll spend your day paddling kayaks on the fresh waters of the Indian River with other outdoor-lovers like yourself – plus there’s live entertainment and local vendors for when your arms need a paddling break! If water sports aren’t for you, you can bring out your inner wine connoisseur at New Smyrna’s Wine Walk where you’ll sip on a selection of over 100 showcased wines. You’ll find your inner Kenny G at the New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival, which has grown to be one of Central Florida’s premier music events. Enjoy the rhythmic tunes from venue to venue and snack on the delicious street food as you go.  While jazz appeals to a more mature crowd, you’ll find fun for all ages at the nearby Family Days 2019 in Port Orange. With parades, games, rides, food trucks, and a Kid’s Zone, no one in your family will complain of boredom!

Enjoy Outdoor Activities in Milder Weather

If you know anything about Florida, you know it can get HOT! While temps above 100 degrees make for excellent beach days, they certainly aren’t ideal for other outdoor outings.  When you visit New Smyrna Beach in the fall you’ll find that the scorching weather has subsided into a milder heat allowing you to enjoy outdoor activities besides the beach. Grab a helmet and a friend to go biking along New Smyrna’s nearby trails that lead you to landmarks like the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Indian River. Check out our complete NSB Cyclist’s Guide for trail directions and bike rental information! If you can’t bear to leave the ocean, sign up for a coastal boating tour that will give you a peak into the lives of the Atlantic’s inhabitants.  Whether you decide to go deep sea fishing or follow the dolphins at play, you’ll find yourself refreshed and at peace from a day on the water.  Read through our Best Charter Boat Tours guide to decide which you’d love most!

There’s no reason to pack your swimsuit away for next year just yet when New Smyrna Beach is still offering warm days, clear beaches, and a calendar of exciting events! Escape to sunny paradise and book your autumn getaway with Great Ocean Condos and Homes here!
